MINISTER VISIT TO OPEN NEW BORDER CONTROL FACILITY

Today Baroness Vere, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in the Department for Transport, responsible for Maritime, Aviation and Security, paid a visit to the Port of Poole to formally open Poole Harbour Commissioners’ new Border Control Post.

Following a rigorous inspection process, Poole Harbour Commissioners have now received confirmation from DEFRA that this facility is now designated as a Border Control Post.

The facility was constructed in 2021, with financial assistance from government via the Port Infrastructure Fund and will be fully operational early 2024 to accept goods for inspection as required by the Port Health Authority and the Animal & Plant Health Agency.

Captain Brian Murphy, Chief Executive of Poole Harbour Commissioners, said: “It is an honour and a privilege to welcome Baroness Vere to formally open the Port of Poole Border Control Post in preparation for a full operational date early next year.   We are very excited to start promoting this new facility to the European and Rest of World markets.”
