More commonly known as jet skis or water bikes, PWs are permitted to use the harbour waters with some restrictions.
The designated PW area to the north of Brownsea Island is exempt from the speed limit of ten knots, which is strictly enforced around the rest of the harbour. Here lies the ideal location to use your PW as it keeps you away from the harbour entrance and shipping channels, which visitors are not to linger by. We also ask that riders do not “play the wake” of larger vessels for health and safety reasons
Permits are required for water skiing within the harbour, these can be easily purchased online or obtained from the harbour office. To be eligible for a permit you must make sure that your PW is data tagged and that the number is clearly visible. Those under the age of sixteen are unable to ride your craft unless they’re being supervised by the permit holder or have an RYA Certificate of Proficiency for PWs.
Please follow the Code of Practice for PWs to ensure you enjoy your time at the harbour.
