More commonly known as jet skis or water bikes, Personal Watercraft (PWCs) are permitted to use the harbour waters with some restrictions.
These restrictions also apply to E-Foils. Please click here for more information about E-Foiling in Poole Harbour
The designated PWC area to the north of Brownsea Island is exempt from the speed limit of ten knots, which is strictly enforced around the rest of the harbour. Here lies the ideal location to use your PWC as it keeps you away from the harbour entrance and shipping channels, which visitors are not to linger by. We also ask that riders do not “play the wake” of larger vessels for health and safety reasons
Permits are required for using your Personal Watercraft within Poole Harbour, these can be easily purchased online or obtained from the harbour office. To be eligible for a permit you must make sure that your PWC is data tagged and that the number is clearly visible. Those under the age of sixteen are unable to ride your craft unless they’re being supervised by the permit holder or have an RYA Certificate of Proficiency for PWCs.
Please follow the Code of Practice for PWCs to ensure you enjoy your time at the harbour.
