Baiter Slipway

If you’re looking to take to the water during your visit to Poole Harbour, we recommend looking into using the publicly accessible Baiter Slipway. This location is ideal for safely launching smaller vessels into the water with minimal risk.

Baiter Slipway

Baiter Slipway is a council run area that visitors can use to safely launch smaller vessels, such as personal watercraft (PW) into Poole Harbour. There are a number of benefits to using the slipway, such as it being:

  • Easily Accessible
  • Reasonably Priced
  • Simple to Operate
  • Ideally Located

It is important to note though that the slipway is very shallow. This shallowness is to the point that if your RIB is more than a six-man vessel, you shouldn’t expect to use the slipway without a struggle at anything other than high water. It is also worth noting that there are other private slips in the area that are operated by local yacht clubs that are excellent, but they can be very expensive.

Permits, Charges and Insurance

To launch your watercraft in Baiter Harbourside One Car Park, where the slipway is situated, it will cost you £17.30 from 6 am to midnight and £13.80 from 2:30 pm to midnight. Please note that it is not possible to pre-book and the spaces can fill up quickly, particularly on a nice summers day. These are reasonable charges that include car and trailer parking as well. Visitors should be aware though that the car park is locked at midnight for security reasons.

The car park charge at Baiter Slipway also covers daily harbour dues, so there is no need to try and pay for these again. However, permits for any PW must be purchased separately before you launch them into the water. The application forms for permits can be accessed through our website here and can be purchased at the Harbour Office.

When launching a PW from Baiter Slipway, it is also essential that you have insurance. Third party liability cover is a mandatory requirement of the Borough of Poole Council when using the slipway, so it is of the utmost importance that you come prepared.
