Poole Harbour is one of the best locations on the South Coast for board sailing sports. Although Windsurfing is not allowed in the harbour entrance or main shipping channels, there is a dedicated board sailing area in Whitley Lake adjacent to Sandbanks, which is shallow and safe, but dries out at low water. It is ideal for novices and the area is next to the road and a sandy beach and is very convenient for unloading and rigging. For those looking for more challenging conditions, they can be found at Kimmeridge Bay which is a forty-minute westbound journey via the chain ferry.
