Oil Spill Contingency Plan

The Poole Harbour Oil Spill Contingency Plan has been developed to conform with the Merchant Shipping (Oil Pollution Preparedness, Response and Co-operation Convention) Regulations 1998 (OPRC), SI 1056 which came into effect 15 May 1998. Under this legislation, each Statutory Harbour Authority is required to have a plan.

The plan sets out the contingency arrangements for responding to actual or threatened oil pollution incidents within Poole Harbour to ensure that there is a timely, measured and effective response to pollution incidents. Its primary purpose is to set in motion the necessary actions to stop or minimise the discharge and to mitigate its effects.

Poole Harbour Commissioners staff are prepared and trained to respond quickly to an incident and are supported by Adler and Allan, our contracted oil spill response partners.
