10 Mar VACANCY ON BRIDGE OPERATING BOARD
PHC and BCP Council are jointly seeking a new Commercial Maritime Users representative, supporting the safe and sustainable management of Poole Lifting Bridges.
The Commercial Representative sits on the Poole Harbour Bridges Operating Board (BOB) as one of the appointments made by Poole Harbour Commissioners, representing commercial harbour users. The role ensures commercial maritime interests are fully considered in the management and operation of the two lifting bridges.

Key Responsibilities
– Represent commercial maritime operators.
– Review and comment on proposed bridge lifting schedules.
– Provide insight on navigation safety and vessel operations.
– Raise recommendations to the Council regarding bridge operations.
– Collaborate with other Board members and maritime authorities.
Term, Appointment, and Governance
– Appointed by Poole Harbour Commissioners.
– Three-year term, renewable.
– Attend a minimum of two meetings per year.
– Full voting rights in Board decisions.
Skills & Experience Requirements
– Experience in commercial maritime operations.
– Understanding of navigational safety and port operations.
– Strong communication and stakeholder representation skills.
– Familiarity with commercial users of Backwater Channel
– Ideally an existing network of commercial users
Expected Outputs
– Input into bridge-lifting schedules.
– Recommendations balancing commercial and road interests
– Identification of operational risks
– Liaison with and representation of commercial users
