POOLE HARBOUR COMMISSIONERS PARTNER IN INNOVATE UK-FUNDED PROJECT TO ADVANCE CLEAN MARITIME ELECTRIFICATION

PHC are participating as a project partner in the Virtual Energy Simulation for Shore-side Electrification Load (VESSEL) project; an innovative project funded by Innovate UK through the Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition (CMDC) Round 6.

The VESSEL project, led by Fellten in collaboration with the University of Plymouth, EDF, Cenex, and Apricity Sustainability Consulting, is a 6 month’s feasibility study running from September 2025 to March 2026. Its focus is to explore innovative approaches to port-side energy management that can reduce costs, shorten deployment times, and accelerate the roll-out of vessel electrification infrastructure.

The project outcomes will include:

  • A software solution integrating vessel and port-side energy data.
  • A tested battery optimisation system balancing supply and demand.
  • A replicable framework to support deployment across ports nationwide.

This collaboration will build upon PHC’s Decarbonisation Plan, helping to inform future investment in low-carbon energy infrastructure.
