NEW AIR QUALITY SENSORS DEPLOYED AT OUR MARINAS

We are pleased to announce the deployment of advanced air quality sensors at Poole Quay Boat Haven and Port of Poole Marina. These state-of-the-art sensors will provide valuable insights into local air quality, supporting our wider decarbonisation efforts.

The sensors have been installed as part of the Electric Seaway project, an initiative led by the University of Plymouth in partnership with BCP Council. The project is funded through the Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition Round 3 (CMDC3), a programme backed by the Department for Transport and delivered in partnership with Innovate UK.

These cutting-edge sensors will monitor key environmental factors, including:

  • Particulate matter (PM)
  • Nitrogen dioxide (NO₂)
  • Carbon dioxide (CO₂)
  • Volatile organic compounds (VOCs)

Utilising LoRaWAN technology, the sensors will collect data remotely, enabling continuous monitoring and long-term analysis. This will allow us to better understand existing conditions and assess the benefits of transitioning to electric vessels within the harbour.

This initiative plays a crucial role in our commitment to reducing emissions and enhancing air quality in Poole Harbour. By leveraging innovative technology, we can track improvements over time and ensure that sustainable maritime solutions deliver real environmental benefits.
