Brownsea Island

Brownsea Island

Brownsea Island is a small island with a truly remarkable presence. Steeped in history, it has served as a military stronghold, industrial site, played host to Edwardian culture and most recently it’s become a wildlife sanctuary. In 1818, Prince Regent was quoted as saying “I had no idea I had such a delightful spot in my kingdom.”

Today, Brownsea Island is home to the famous Red Squirrel – an elusive little critter once native to the UK mainland as well as wild peacocks that roam freely. Visitors will be taken to the island by boat where they’ll get to meet local artisans who still follow the old ways while immersing themselves in the natural beauty of the island. History, culture, art and wildlife are all to be discovered in this quaint little wilderness.
