HISTORIC TALL SHIP NAO SANTA MARÍA TO VISIT POOLE QUAY THIS JUNE

The Nao Santa María, a full-scale replica of one of the most famous ships in maritime history, will be arriving in Poole this week.

This striking tall ship will be moored alongside Poole Quay from 11th to 22nd June, offering visitors a rare opportunity to step aboard and experience the world of 15th-century seafarers.

The Nao Santa María is a faithful recreation of the flagship used by Christopher Columbus during his first voyage across the Atlantic in 1492. The original Santa María played a pivotal role in one of history’s greatest journeys of exploration.

Built in 2018 by the Spanish shipbuilding organisation Fundación Nao Victoria, this modern replica has sailed extensively, bringing history to life for visitors across Europe and the United States. At 26 metres in length with four decks and over 300 square metres of sail, the ship now serves as a travelling museum, sharing the story of early transatlantic navigation and the challenges of life at sea.

During her stay in Poole, the Nao Santa María will be open to the public daily. The ship’s crew will be on board to share insights into the ship’s construction, its voyages, and the lives of sailors during the Age of Exploration.

Visitors will be able to explore all decks of the ship, examine the rigging and navigation instruments, and learn more about the remarkable courage and determination of 15th-century explorers.

Tickets for onboard visits can be booked in advance via the Fundación Nao Victoria’s official website, or purchased on the ship.

The visit has been organised in partnership with Poole BID (Business Improvement District).
