08 May CONCLUSION OF INNOVATION PROJECT ADVANCING SHORE POWER AND ZERO-EMISSION SHIPPING
A meeting at Fellten’s offices in Bristol brought partners together to close the Innovate UK-funded VESSEL project (Virtual Energy Simulation for Shoreside Electrification Load), delivered through the Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition (CMDC) Round 6 programme.
Led by Fellten in partnership with Poole Harbour Commissioners, University of Plymouth, EDF, Cenex and Apricity Sustainability Consulting, the project completed at the end of March 2026 and delivered a feasibility study supporting the transition to zero-emission shipping.
The work applies smart shipping and energy demand technologies to address key challenges faced by ports and harbours in delivering shoreside electrification infrastructure.
VESSEL provides a practical framework for understanding and managing port-side energy demand through data integration and battery optimisation. It will build on PHC’s Decarbonisation Plan and help inform future investment in low-carbon energy infrastructure.
