The Port of Poole is set in an area recognised for its environmental
importance.
The Poole Harbour Commissioners, the operators of the Port of Poole, are
committed to take account of these environmental sensitivities in all their
functions. This is enshrined in its environmental
policy which includes environmental objectives.
The Port of Poole places importance on complying with its responsibilities
to the natural, human and built environment, and has procedures and measures
in place to minimise environmental impacts arising from their activities.
These procedures and processes are being drawn together through the Port
Environmental Review System (PERS). PERS is one of the self-assessment tools
that have been developed by ECOPORTS to
assist ports to achieve environmental awareness and good practice. The port
hopes to apply for accreditation of its PERS system soon.
The annually published environmental review
provides a summary of the environmental activities over the past twelve months.
