Poole Harbour Commissioners Licence for
Works under the
Poole Harbour Act 1914 |
If you are considering carrying out work (building a jetty,
slipway, seawall, dredging, etc) below high water anywhere in
Poole Harbour you may require a licence from Poole Harbour
Commissioners.
In order for the Commissioners to consider the issue of a
licence to carry out works it will be necessary to submit 3
copies of a detailed plan of the proposal to the Harbour
Engineer. The information must be sufficient to ascertain the
location and extent of the works.
In addition, as parts of the harbour are designated under the
Conservation (Natural Habitats, etc) Regulations 1994 as a
Special Protection Area (SPA) and fall within a Site of Special
Scientific Interest (SSSI), licence applications must also be
accompanied by the information requested in the Poole Harbour
Commissioners'
Licence
Applications - Works in Poole
Harbour
The 'Best Practice Guidelines' were prepared by the Poole
Harbour Commissioners to give early guidance to applicants of
the requirements of the Habitat Regulations which aim to protect
the SPA. The Guidelines summarise the initial information to be
submitted in support of the application, which then allows the
Commissioners to assess properly what the plan or project's
effects on the SPA may be and whether a more detailed
'Appropriate Assessment' will be required.
It may also be necessary to apply for Planning Permission, a
Licence under the Food & Environment Protection Act, and
approval under the Coast Protection Act 1949.
For further information or a copy of the Best Practice
Guidelines please contact the Harbour Engineer on (01202)
440200.
